Between the water and the forest, on the eastern shore
Audenge sits in the heart of Arcachon Bay, on its eastern shore, between the water and the pine forest of the Landes de Gascogne. Less busy than the southern shore, this is the side of the bay you live on by bike and on foot: the oyster harbour, the tidal sea-water bathing pool, the Certes and Graveyron estate, and a cycle path that runs a hundred metres from the house.

The Certes and Graveyron estate
Former fish reservoirs turned nature reserve: kilometres of dykes between fresh water and salt, on foot or by bike, with only the birds for company.
Oysters and shacks
Tastings at Audenge harbour, feet over the water, at the bay's own oyster farms.
Around the bay by bike
The cycle path passes a hundred metres from the house and reaches Le Teich, Biganos, Andernos and Arcachon without ever sharing the road. Bike hire available locally.
The ocean and the dune
The Dune du Pilat, Arcachon and Cap Ferret are forty minutes away by car; the surf beaches of the Landes coast barely further.
Bordeaux
A short hour is enough for a day in the city, markets and museums included.
